James A. Reed II, JD, CFA, Lead Portfolio Manager

James Reed is the lead portfolio manager for the Scout Stock Fund. Mr. Reed has been a member of the Large Cap Equity management team since 2002.

Mr. Reed has more than 16 years of investment experience. After three years as a private attorney, Mr. Reed joined the organization in 1988. Since then, he has filled several investment management roles including security analyst, portfolio manager and director of research.

Mr. Reed earned his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and his law degree from Washington & Lee University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Kansas City CFA Society. He is also a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Kansas City Missouri Bar Association.




Larry L. Valencia, CFA, Co-Portfolio Manager
Director of Research for Scout Investment Advisors

Larry Valencia is co-portfolio manager for the Scout Stock Fund. In addition, Mr. Valencia is director of research for Scout Investment Advisors.

Mr. Valencia has more than 25 years of investment experience including portfolio and pension account management. Valencia’s previous investment experience includes 13 years with Standard & Poor’s Compustat Services and six years with the Security Benefit Group, Inc.

Mr. Valencia earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois College and his master’s degree in finance from the University of Denver. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Kansas City CFA Society.


James L. Moffett, CFA, Co-Portfolio Manager
Chairman, Scout Investment Advisors, Inc.

Mr. Moffett has more than 40 years of investment management experience. Prior to joining SIA, he was a portfolio manager with Commercial National Bank and worked in similar capacities for Boatmen’s Bank. His professional background also includes private investment counseling.

During his distinguished career, Moffett has received numerous accolades for his investment performance, earning national recognition from leading ratings organizations and financial publications.

Moffett earned his bachelor's degree from Harvard University and an MBA from Stanford. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Kansas City CFA Society.
